Changelog

What changed in each release of Blank.

3.0.1 — October 2026

One visual language instead of shadcn with our colors on top.

Monochrome. Black and white ink on neutral greys. Color now means status, data, or your brand. --brand is the one knob: focus rings, checked, selected and active states follow it. Set it in the theme configurator and copy the CSS. Purple is gone from the system.

Rounder and calmer. Pill controls on one height scale (24 / 32 / 36 / 40), 16px surfaces with hairline rings instead of borders and shadows, roomy menus, 24px dialogs. Geist and Geist Mono replace Inter.

Motion. Shared easing tokens (ease-out, ease-in-out, ease-spring) and small, interruptible micro-interactions: a drawn checkbox tick, a springy switch, a sliding tab indicator, rolling stepper digits, animated tags and chips, one enter/exit for every popover. Everything honors reduced motion.

Bento. A new section: a lit bento card and 24 animated visuals built from Blank components (command palette, inbox, gauge, deploy pipeline, team presence, AI prompt, plans, approvals, security, payments, system health and more), plus six bento sections.

Dashboards. Six new application screens: product analytics, banking, deployments, an AI platform console, a store admin and a sales pipeline.

Every block reworked in the new language.

Removed. Decorative effects that read as generic: Border Beam, Shimmer Button, Animated Grid Pattern, Flickering Grid, Orbiting Circles, Interactive Hover Button, Typing Animation, Word Rotate, Scramble Text, Spotlight Card, Tilt Card, and in Pro: Light Rays, Particles, Magnetic Button, Globe, Dock, Coverflow. Copies you already installed keep working; they are no longer in the registry.

Breaking, in small ways. Button, Badge, Tabs, Toggle, Chip and Quantity Stepper default to shape="pill" (rounded is still there). Avatar fallbacks lost the color prop (use theme="accent"). Checkbox and Radio Group lost their size prop, Tooltip its size, Select its md alias, Button Group its shape, Drawer its showHandle and DrawerMedia. Feature Card dropped its media parts in favour of Bento. Bento Grid has a new composable API. Fonts load into --font-geist-sans and --font-geist-mono.

3.0 — October 2026

Blank becomes a code-first library. The design language of the Figma kit, now as React components you install with the shadcn CLI and own as source.

Code-first. Every component is a single React 19 + Tailwind v4 file in shadcn's structure: same exported names, parts and props, so blocks from the wider ecosystem drop in unchanged. One token sheet drives light and dark.

Free and Pro. The primitives, the free animations, the theme and a set of starter blocks are MIT-licensed on the public @blank registry. Pro components and Pro blocks ship on the private @blank-pro registry behind a licence key — see Pro access.

New components. Beyond shadcn's primitives: social sign-in buttons, price and quantity inputs, a file input, inverted popover surfaces, and a range of animated text, background and marketing components.

Blocks. Marketing sections — navbars, heroes, features, testimonials, pricing, FAQ, CTA, footers — and application screens such as sign-in, dashboards, billing and settings. Each block previews at desktop, tablet and mobile widths in the block gallery.

Mockups. Device and window frames — phones, tablets, laptops, browser and terminal windows — for product shots built from live UI instead of screenshots.

For agents. Copy prompt on every page, /llms.txt, and support for the shadcn MCP server through the namespaced registries.

2.7

The Figma, Framer and Webflow editions. They remain available and supported alongside Blank 3:

  • Blank for Figma — the UI kit with components, variables, layouts and icons in light and dark.
  • Blank for Framer — ready-made sections in Blank's style, with the Figma source.
  • Blank for Webflow — a Webflow library of Blank sections, with the Figma source.

They are sold separately and as an All Access bundle on the pricing page.
